Butterfly Valley in Fethiye, Turkey, a captivating natural resort

Butterfly Valley, in the Turkish state of Mugla, is a natural resort, a place to escape from the noisy city life for a few weeks or days, and for others, it is a place that seems to exist outside the scope of history and time. It is difficult to believe that Butterfly Valley exists anywhere at all, given its beauty and charming nature, and the presence of many swarms of butterflies living near the waterfalls.

Butterfly Valley is one of the most picturesque places in the Fethiye region, which is characterized by its white beaches, calm sea, and picturesque nature. It is one of the best places to spend a weekend, away from the noise and bustle of cities.

Butterfly Valley is located in the foothills of Mount Babadag, on the Aegean Sea, in the province of Muğla in Turkey. It is a large valley that can be reached either by taxi boat from the town of Fethiye, specifically from Oludeniz. The trip by this boat takes about 45 minutes.

The 86,000 square meter Butterfly Valley is home to nearly 100 species of butterflies, including the native orange, black, and white New Jersey Tiger butterflies. Olive, lemon, pomegranate, orange, grape, chestnut, peach, plum, palm, oleander, and laurel trees also grow there.

A roaring waterfall descends from a height of 350 meters from the narrow valley to a gentle river that irrigates the simple trees that bloom with fragrant lavender leaves, which is the natural environment for the butterflies.

The Turkish government classified the valley as a nature reserve in 1987 to protect the butterflies and local flowers there, a measure that led to the protection of the valley. The Turkish Tourism Development Authority bought Butterfly Valley from the residents of Faralya villages in 1981, and opened it for tourism in 1984. Three years later, when the government declared Butterfly Valley a nature reserve, the authority prohibited the construction of permanent buildings on its land.
